About Us
Who We Are
WICUDA-CANADA (9511806 Canada Association) was formed in 2011. The Association brings together Canadian residents, with origins from Mbumland in the North West province of Cameroon, as well as their spouses, friends, and sympathisers.
We bring together Wimbum residents in Canada, and to promote a spirit of unity that will ultimately lead to the building of a strong Wimbum community in Canada, capable of carrying out activities and projects to enhance the social integration of Wimbum in Canada, and promoting education and improving living standards of the Wimbum by working to eliminate marginalization and poverty.
Our Objectives
Mission & Vision
Enhance the social integration of new immigrants from Mbumland in Canada
The WICUDA-CANADA family welcomes and integrates the new immigrants, providing them with information on accessing resources in Canada, including job searches, help to find accessible housing, and various community resources required by new immigrants. Very often, some WICUDA members offer to house the new immigrants during their first months in Canada, thus providing them a stepping stone into their new country.
Enhance the sense of belonging and pride in Mbum children and youths in Canada
Through its cultural and educational outreach program, WICUDA-CANADA teaches its children and youth about the enriching Mbum culture, music, language and history. This enforces in our youth their pride of having African roots and gives them a strong identity. WICUDA-CANADA strongly believes that such an approach is key in empowering the younger generation to excel in the multicultural Canadian society.
Provide a safe space for members to commune
The WICUDA-CANADA family understands that its members might feel away from home in Canada. Through its social outreach mandate, WICUDA-CANADA ensures that its members feel at home away from home. This is achieved by the following:
- In times of good events, notable achievements, promotions, etc. The Association sends congratulatory messages to the members concerned. In the case of births, the Association visits the family to celebrate with them in line with Mbum traditional values.
- In times of disappointments and misfortunes such as illness, hospitalization, or death of a member, the Association provides moral and some financial assistance to the affected member.
